KITTY CAT

Cat Sweeney aka Kitty Cat, founder of Burncity Queenz and Jungle City projects, has over 20 years’ experience as a dancer and arts practitioner. As a member of Burncity Queenz Cat has performed alongside Dancehall, Afrobeats, and Hip Hop artists such as; Elephant Man, Demarco, Twista, Bracket, Stone Boy, and Konshens to name a few. Cat has trained extensively in Jamaica for over 12 years learning Dancehall by the creators and founded True Jamaican Dancehall Tours in 2014 – bringing Jamaican dancers to Australia and taking Australian students to Jamaica to learn Dancehall from the source.
Cat was the first Australian in history to enter the International Dancehall Queen competition, and in 2015 ranked Top Ten in the 19th Annual IDHQ Competition. She has toured around Australia sharing her knowledge and love of Dancehall and helped grow the Dancehall community through her hard work and dedication to the culture.
In 2018 Cat became one of the official back-up dancers for Baker Boy and has featured in several of his videos including ‘Marryuna’ the award winning ‘Meditjin’. In 2024 Cat completed her training in Somatic Dance Movement therapy and Hatha Yoga and utilizes these methodologies to better support her community using dance as a tool for healing, inclusion, and positive social change.

Shanti Monteiro is a Melbourne-based dance artist, performer, choreographer and instructor who has been dancing professionally for over 15 years. Her practice is deeply rooted in Dancehall, Afro-diasporic dance and traditional West African movement.
Shanti has undertaken intensive training in traditional West African drumming and dance in Ghana, including training with professional African ballet ensembles. She has performed and toured with dance collectives including Wassawumba, Mr Savona Dance Crew and the one and only Burn City Queenz – Australia’s first Dancehall crew. Her performance work has taken her to festivals, community events, benefits and major stages including WOMAD and Arts Centre Melbourne.
Shanti continues to travel to Jamaica, deepening her connection to Jamaican culture, music and dance and learning through the people, places and communities that shape these forms. She is passionate about dancing within her own community and creating spaces where movement can be shared, celebrated and experienced collectively.
For Shanti, shared movement is an act of revolution and human evolution – a way of connecting, remembering, expressing and moving together.
In 2025, Shanti won the Australian Dancehall Festival Solo category.

netty nineties
Dance artist / Performer / Choreographer / Instructor
Netty studied a Bachelor of Performing Arts in the UK, with a special interest in dance. She has been studying dancehall for around 8 years both in Australia and Jamaica. She competed in the Australian Dancehall Queen competition in 2017 and 2018. She performed with a team of dancers from Jungle City in the World Reggae Dance Championships in Jamaica in 2017.
In recent years Annette has been focusing on choreography and teaching, and performed on stage at Monkey Marc’s Vital Sound tour in Melbourne in 2019.

SIM simma
Dance artist / Performer / Instructor
Sim Simma (she/her) is a Thai-Seychellois dance artist, choreographer, and teacher based in Naarm/Melbourne. With roots in Thai folk and contemporary dance, her movement journey expanded through street dance styles e.g. Hip Hop party steps, house, breaking etc., before she found a deep connection with Afro dance styles and Jamaican Dancehall.
Since 2020, Simone has dedicated her work to soulful, culturally grounded movement particularly within Afro House and Afro Dance from other regions across the African continent.
Simone is incredibly excited to bring Afro Dance to MUSD. Afro Dance/Afro Fusion is a dynamic and expressive style that draws from a range of traditional and contemporary African dance forms. In her classes, students will explore movement vocabularies from countries such as Angola (Afro House), Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa (Amapiano). Through rhythm, grounded footwork, polyrhythmic isolations, and cultural storytelling, dancers will gain not only physical skills but also an appreciation of the rich cultural contexts behind each style.
Simone currently teaches at Jungle City Projects, where she has lead both Beginner and Advanced Afro courses, and mentors young women through Culture Queenz, a culturally diverse youth crew. Known for her strong foundations, radiant energy, and deep cultural respect, Simone brings authenticity and intention to every space whether it’s in the studio, on stage, or in the battle circle.

PANCHO VITERI

Pancho Viteri is a dancer, choreographer and instructor from Ecuador 🇪🇨. He started dancing and teaching in Melbourne about 12 years ago and now he is back in town.
His love and passion for movement make him a very versatile dancer and choreographer. He combines many styles and dance techniques into a unique way of movement to challenge any mover who wants to level up their game.
He has travelled to L.A., South Korea and most parts of South America where he has got world-class dance experience. He is very excited to share his craft with Melbourne’s dance community with a little bit of Latin spice on it.
Lerato Masiyane

Lerato has been dancing for as long as she can remember – firstly in the style of Hip hop and then, since arriving in Australia, and joining Melbourne’s top Dancehall crew Burncity Queenz has become highly acclaimed for her skills in Dancehall and Afrodances. Lee placed 3rd in the Australian Dancehall Queen competition in 2015 and travelled to Jamaica in that same year to learn from the creators first hand in Jamaica.
Over the past few years Lee’s career has gone from strength to strength – not only with her position at Jungle City, and as a member of Burncity Queenz, but also as a solo performer, performing with the likes of Sampa the Great, Baker Boy and featuring in numerous music videos with local and international artists.

She is committed to empowering others through dance which has seen her work in the community arts sector for 10 years.
Tina De Melo was crowned Australian DanceHall Queen (DHQ) in 2015, & placed top 10 in the International Dancehall Queen Competition in 2015 in Jamaica (the home of dancehall). She has performed at many festivals throughout Australia including supporting artists such as Sampa the Great, and features in music videos with artists such as Baker Boy, Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Hermitude to name a few. With many years of experience, she has supported International dancehall artists Beenie Man, Elephant Man, DeMarco, Charley Black, Cecile, Kranium, Konshens on their Internnational tours. She has choreographed for high profile artists and companies including Bake Boy and J Smith Productions, specializing in Hip Hop, Afro Dances, Dancehall, West African Dance, and Traditional Timorese dance. |
MIISS LORA

Lora is an energetic performer with over 15 years experience as a professional dancer and choreographer. She has trained in all styles from ballet, jazz and theatre with hip-hop and dancehall being her foundation. From starting her career here in Narrm under Kitty Kat at Jungle City studios, she has travelled abroad to New York, LA and Jamaica for further training.
In each class she empowers those to challenge themselves by pushing their creative boundaries, trying new movements or by building their confidence through dance.
KARABO aka Kb

Karabo is a Melbourne-based Afro dancer with roots in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Her dance journey began with freestyle hip hop in New Zealand before discovering Afro dance during high school. Since moving to Melbourne in 2015, she has developed a strong passion for Afro dance, particularly amapiano. She has performed in music videos, taught in her community, and danced on stages including St Kilda Festival, Moomba, and alongside amapiano artist Daliwonga. Known for her infectious energy, expressive facials, and vibrant personality, Karabo brings culture and character to every performance
