Dance is a universal practice of cultural expression, celebration, well-being and a powerful tool for social. At Jungle City we offer an alternative to mainstream dance education with both in-house and outreach dance programs, interactive workshops, performances, and creative projects that inspire Unity in our Diversity through the power of dance.

Our Mission

Through the power of dance we make space for Every Body, Every Day to Move, Create and Connect, promoting Unity in our Diversity, equality, peace and justice for all.

To achieve this our team of dance practitioners, provide weekly classes, workshops, educational programs, youth mentoring, entertainment for festivals and events, outreach projects for diverse community cohorts, as well as produce our own events, camps and tours, locally interstate and internationally.

The workshop hosted by Chuby was both enjoyable and upbeat. Despite being on an online platform, Chuby was able to engage all the young people in the session and had everyone on their feet. The dances were easy to follow through Chuby's demonstrations and were well-suited for people aged 10-15.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

For many of us, dance is what you do at nightclubs, in zumba classes or after a few drinks. But look deeper, and you’ll find dance is the weapon of the oppressed, the lifeline of the displaced, the unbroken thread to ancestors who refused to be silenced. It’s what happens when a community’s back is against the wall and their feet start moving.
The Assemble Project asks the question: is dance political, and if so, why does it matter? So far, we’ve identified over 50 different global styles that are politically radical. Assemble is not about passive formalities or soft statements. We believe in action. In resilience. And rewriting history from the perspective of the artist, the survivor, not the victor.
How do we do that? Through dialogue, research, exploration and education. In short, we want to change the way people think about dance. It’s political.

Jungle City acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the land where we work, we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. Jungle City pledges commitment to ‘pay the rent’ to Aboriginal people in Victoria by contributing 2% of our monthly profits to Pay The Rent.
